The powerful first trailer for Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story has been revealed. The docuseries, produced by music mogul Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter in conjunction with Paramount Network is based on the book Rest in Power by Trayvon Martin’s parents Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, which was published in the UK by Jacaranda Books in 2017.
The release follows the appearance of Jay-Z at the recent Trayvon Martin Peace Walk in Miami. At the talk, Jay-Z took the stage to deliver a heartfelt speech. “Trayvon serves as a beacon of light… so that you guys never have to go through the pain and the hurt that these guys went through… His name will sit alongside the greats who lost their lives to push our culture forward,” the star is seen saying to the attendees gathered.
Both JAY-Z and his wife, multiple award-winning, record-breaking star Beyoncé, have been openly supportive of the Fulton/Martin family’s fight for justice since young Trayvon was tragically shot dead 6 years ago. The docuseries will be previewed at the Tribeca Festival, with general release set for July 2018.
