Who Are You?

You are a postgraduate student or recent graduate who is eager to gain hands-on experience in the publishing industry. You are passionate about diversity and inclusion, and are keen to learn about the business of publishing. You have excellent communication and organisational skills, and can work effectively independently and as part of a team.
 

What You Will Be Doing

As a Jacaranda intern you will work across multiple areas of the business including sales and marketing, editorial, and production.

Sales and Marketing:

  • Campaign Development: You will assist in crafting and executing marketing campaigns, including digital and traditional marketing methods.
  • Social Media Management: Manage and create content for our social media channels, engage with our audience, and analyze social media performance metrics.
  • Market Research: Conduct research to identify market trends, target audiences, and competitive analysis to inform sales strategies.
  • E-commerce and Digital Sales: Participate in managing our online store, handling digital sales transactions, optimizing product metadata,  and analyzing e-commerce performance data.

Editorial:

  • Manuscript Evaluation: Participate in the initial review process of manuscripts, providing constructive feedback based on literary and market viability.
  • Copyediting and Proofreading: Assist in editing manuscripts to ensure clarity, coherence, and adherence to house style.
  • Author Liaison: Communicate with authors regarding manuscript progress and editorial feedback.

Production:

  • Layout Design: Gain experience in book layout design, understanding the intricacies of typesetting and formatting.
  • Coordination: Work closely with printers and other production partners to ensure timely and quality production of books.
  • Quality Control: Participate in the final review process to ensure the finished product meets our standards.

Mentorship and Professional Development:

  • Guidance: Interns will receive mentorship from experienced professionals, providing insights into the publishing industry and career advice.
  • Networking: Opportunities to network with industry professionals through events and company activities.
  • Feedback: Regular feedback sessions will be held to discuss progress and areas for improvement.

General Office Administration:

  • This component of the internship provides a unique opportunity to gain a comprehensive overview of the publishing business, and enhance your organizational and multitasking skills 
  • You will engage in general office administration tasks including but not limited to: coordinating schedules, managing correspondence, organizing files, and assisting with day-to-day office operations
  • You'll observe and assist the collaboration between editorial, marketing, production, and sales colleagues to bring a book from manuscript to market.
