Magdalene Abraha reveals A Quick Ting On
Magdalene Abraha has revealed a brilliant new non-fiction book series A Quick Ting On.
The A Quick Ting On series, created, developed and commissioned by Abraha, is the first of its kind and will cover topics from music to bamboo earrings, plantain to the Black British power movement, Afrobeats to Black British business and much more.
Abraha told the Guardian “There’s nothing like this out there... I created this series to provide a space that can celebrate, pay homage and explore culture. It’s about the everyday conversations that we have about art, music, hair, history, politics, food and so much more.”
The first eight titles in the series will be published by Jacaranda Books between October 2020 – October 2021 with works from some of the UK's most exciting young black intellectuals and influencers. The titles are:
- A Quick Ting On: Grime by Franklyn Addo
- A Quick Ting On: Afrobeats by Christian Adofo
- A Quick Ting On: Plantain by Rui Da Silva
- A Quick Ting On: Theatre Sh*t by Tobi Kyeremateng
- A Quick Ting On: The Black Girl Afro by Zainab Kway-Swanzy
- A Quick Ting On: Bamboo Earrings by Sophia Tassew
- A Quick Ting On: Black British Businesses by Tskenya-Sarah Frazer
- A Quick Ting On: Black British Power Movement by Chanté Joseph
Magdalene Abraha said ‘There’s nothing like this series out there – that’s one of the reasons why I wanted to create it. The subjects that can be explored are limitless, there are never going to be too many topics to cover. A Quick Ting On will provide a space that can celebrate, pay homage and explore culture. It’s about the everyday conversations that we have about art, music, hair, history, politics, food and so much more."
