Jacaranda receives Nibbies nomination for the third year in a row
The British Book Awards also know as the Nibbies, has nominated Jacaranda for the regional prize for Small Presses. Last year Jacaranda won the overall prize and this year's nomination is the third time in as many years that we have been listed. Our nomination is part of 44 others from regions including the North of England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland.
The award celebrates the innovation and durability of Small Presses especially in 2020, a year that saw many challenges threatened their business. Editor of The Bookseller, Philip Jones, said "the shortlist shows the strength, breadth and durability of small press publishing across the United Kingdom and Ireland. These businesses, all of them with sales under £2m and many much smaller, fended off bookshops closures, the loss of author events, and the national lockdowns to deliver an incredible set of results with book sales up, diverse publishing on the rise, and new business opportunities taken."
With the rollout of our #Twentyin2020 comapign in collaboration with Word of Colour, we also teamed up with fellow small press Knights Of to launch the #InclusiveIndies crowdfunder. The fund surpassed its target and raised £164,561 which was awarded to other publishers to help diversity-led independent publishers tell more stories.
Jacaranda are proud that our work has again been recognised and wish the best of luck to all the other nominees.
