A Quick Ting On Afrobeats author Christian Adofo has curated a special playlist ahead of his debut novel's publication next month. A Quick Ting On Afrobeats is the first book in Magdalene Abraha's A Quick Ting On series.
Tracing the genre's development from Fela Kuti to WizKid, the playlist (embedded below) was curated in collaboration with Resident Advisor. Christian told the music platform: "I've felt a sense of freedom stepping into the abyss of the unknown, researching academic journals, seminal books from past masters on the origins of African music and finding myself in the depths of YouTube channels with users who have become inadvertent digital archivists on popular culture connecting Africa and its communities within the diaspora."
Afrobeats is the first book of its kind to chronicle the social and cultural development of the music genre, tracing its rich history from the African continent all the way to the musical centre of the Western world.
It is one of eight titles in the ground-breaking A Quick Ting On series — the first non-fiction series to explore young Black British Culture. The brain-child of multi-award winning Magdalene Abraha, each book has been written by an influential Black British voice and debut author.
